What is eLert?

eLert is a public address system that services the Riverton/Clearlake Township Area. This software provides text messages, e-mail messages, and computer desktop alerting of severe weather, public works incidents, road closures, and other incidents that require public notification. This program is designed to supplement current alerting systems such as television broadcasts, radio broadcasts, and tornado siren warnings.

Why do I need eLert?

The need arose to implement this software due to public concern over the current alerting systems (television, radio, and tornado sirens) not being an effective local warning system. This became clear during the tornado outbreak of March 2005 when power was lost throughout Sangamon County. At that time cell and land line phone systems were overwhelmed with voice calls, but the data system (text messaging) worked flawlessly.

How much does it cost?

Free! This service is provided free of charge from the Clearlake Township.

Who utilizes eLert?

Three entities provided alerts to the Riverton/Clearlake Township Area. They are Clearlake Township, Village of Riverton, and Riverton Fire and EMS.

How do I enroll?

You may enroll for the service by clicking the following link: Register for eLerts or by visiting the link on the upper left hand side of the page.

The second method of registration is to contact the Clearlake Township at 217-523-4210. You may give them your phone number or email address to register for eLerts.
